Beth Letain, born in 1976 in Canada, currently lives and works in Berlin.
Letain works within an intentionally limited vocabulary of forms. These forms reference circuitry, portals and mitosis,
all points of transfer, duplication and connection. While relentlessly pursuing the minimal forms which preoccupy her,
Letain embraces mistakes and uncertainty in her work. The pursuit of forms whose meanings are decipherable only to the artist
represents the ultimate form of self realization. Beth Letain laboriously applies gessolayer by layer and sands it down until it becomes a rich velvety surface. This deliberately long process is contrasted by the fast, almost gestural execution of the formal shapes in oil paint.
Beth Letain was protagonist of solo exhibitions at Signal Hill, Pace Gallery, London, UK (2018); at Peres Projects, Berlin, DE Air Horn, Open Forum, Berlin (2017); at Fireproof Gallery, Brooklyn, US (2010); at the Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax, CA (2005).
Concerning group exhibitions, we mention: Galerie Clemens Gunzer, Wädenswil, CH (2018); Kunstverein Reutlingen, Reutlingen, DE (2018); Peres Projects, Berlin, DE (2017); Radiator Gallery, Long Island City, US (2014); Hampden Gallery at UMass Amherst, US (2011); White Box Gallery Annex, New York, US (2008); The Richard and Dolly Mass Gallery, Purchase, US (2007); First Canadian Place Gallery, Toronto, CA (2005); Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax, CA (2004-2002).
